Legality to play online poker in United States

multitabling 300x195 Legality to play online poker in United StatesLike many other fans of online poker game, you may also have been concerned about an Act named the Unlawful Internet Gambling Act which was passed last year. You would also think whether there is any Act which can include it in the list of illegal activities to play online poker. First of all, you should know that the internet casino gambling had been considered as an illegal activity by eleven states even before the Act was passed. It indicates to only one point that it is understood as an unlawful activity by the laws of these eleven states – Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, and Wisconsin.

All of these states believe that online gambling is an act performed against law. However, as far as there is my opinion, no one has ever been prosecuted or punished for playing an online poker game by any of the states for internet casino gambling. In California, the professional poker players are not considered as gamblers and there is no law that equates poker with gambling. Nothing changed in the legality of online gambling even after the Act was passed. The Act does not declare an online gambling to be legal, in spite of its name. Actually, this Act made it illegal to play online poker for financial institutions in the United States.

The US citizens were not allowed to use the electronic fund transfers and credit or debit cards in relation to the internet casino gambling. That’s the reason why he players have no chance to bet or collect winnings through these methods. Most of the US banks and credit card companies refused the use of their credit cards for playing an online poker game. A new bill that is even enforceable is likely to produce a difficulty for the poker players in making money. In conclusion, we can say that it is understood as an unlawful activity to play online poker in at least 39 out of the 50 states in the United States.
